Make America Great!?
In the
past six months changes have taken place in our country. Were the changes that took place in the best
interest of all who live in the United States?
Yes and No. Here are some of my
thoughts that I will leave you to ponder.
As I mentioned earlier, these are JUST my thoughts that I see as contradictions to what I see taking place. My thoughts may sound like “judgements,” and I do not mean to be a judge. As a born-again believer, Christian, I just ponder over the inconsistencies I see, read and witness in the news and on social media. I do not know what goes on behind “closed doors” in the White House and since the Associate Press has been band, I wonder what unjust things are discussed and not made public. But I do know this:· In 1 Samuel chapter 8, the people of Israel asked Samuel to appoint a king to rule over them. After seeking God’s advice, Samuel informed the people of the consequences in having a king over them. But Israel wanted to be like all the other nations, they got their king. The people of the United States voted, big time and got the president they wanted and now, the United States is facing the consequences. Oh, and the president sees himself as a “king.”
· The history of the United States has always been a country that has “pushed aside” the unwanted out by force. For example, the Native Americans, were pushed out, given small portions of their own land. The US belonged to the Native Americans; most were shot and killed. Remember the movie, The Killers of the Flower Moon? What about the atrocities inflicted on the Black during the time of Slavery – and the treatment they received after Lincoln’s Emancipation and most southerners using the Bible to justify that Blacks were “possessions” and not people with same given human dignity that God gives to all? Let’s not forget the treatment the Japanese by the US during World War 2. And now, the US is “lumping” all immigrants as criminals, primarily Hispanics for deportation, whether they are illegal or not with the inclusion of deny citizenship for those who have begun the process and to children born in the US with immigrant parents? WHO are we?
· In the name of ‘Christianity,” the United States believe the changes are the right thing to do to make America Great? I saw a news clip where staff of the White House were singing worship songs in praise to God. How hypocritical. Jesus in Matthew 15:7-9 quotes form Isaiah 29-13-17 regarding Israel honoring God with their lip but their hearts are far from him. But Isaish says further regarding the consequences they will face. Micah 6:8 says what is GOOD and what God requires, to do JUSTICE, LOVE goodness (mercy) and to walk HUMBLY with your God. This is NOT what our administration is doing.
· Now the BIG BILL was passed in the Senate, 50-50 vote and of course, the vice president will side on the affirmative. Should it pass the House vote (I hope it does not) it will affect low income and the poor and the rich will become richer. Yes, Jesus did say that the poor will always be with us (See Matthew 26:11 and compare Deuteronomy 15:11; Galatians 2:1-10; Hebrew 13:16 & James 1:27). Jesus is confronted by a rich young man asking how to obtain eternal life. Jesus told him if he wished to be perfect, sell what he had and give to the poor, but he could not do so because he was rich. But with Zacchaeus, being a rich tax collector, he did sell and made restitution. (Matthew 19:16-24, Mark 10:17-23; compare Luke 19:1-10). In the case of our administration, this is not the case.
· Let us not forget the hopes of our administration had to expand, “his kingdom,” trying to get Canada to join the states, trying to purchase Greenland, to get land from Ukraine, and Gaza.” I cannot help to ponder that in some way, our administration, like sheep have fallen behind a “wolf in sheep’s clothing.” I noticed that, even though the president did have two Bibles, the one his mother gave him and Lincoln’s which he never placed his hands on during the swearing in at his inauguration. During his campaign, he promoted the Trump Bible for sale, which some have criticized and called it “Christian Nationalism” and that Scripture should not be mixed with political documents. Here is what Wikipedia states about what the Bible contains.
The God Bless the U.S.A. Bible, also known as the Trump Bible, is an anthology or compilation of texts in the realm of American Civil Religion and Trumpism, containing an edition of the King James Version of the Christian Bible alongside texts related to the foundation and politics of the United States such as the Constitution of the United States, Declaration of Independence, and the Pledge of Allegiance. The compilation was created by country music singer-songwriter Lee Greenwood and first published in 2021. It was later marketed by Donald Trump under his brand name and promoted as part of his 2024 presidential campaign.
· God is still on the throne
· What God allows to take place in our history, His purpose will be fulfilled
· God will consider the injustice behaviors for which we will be accountable when we face God at His judgement
· I am not afraid of what man can do to me (Psalm 27:1; Psalm 118:6-9; Matthew 10:26-28 & Hebrews 13:6)
·
The
Bible does say to submit to those in authority because their laws are in place
for our good if we do good by them but if we do evil, we will suffer the
consequences for breaking them (Romans 13:1-7).
·
The
Bible does say that Jesus expects us to give to Ceaser what is due to him, and
to God what is due to God (Matthew 22:15-21).
In conclusion,
standing up for injustice and maltreatment of our neighbors and alien residents
is not in any way disobeying those in authority who themselves break God’s moral
laws in the name of making America Great.
Standing up for God’s call to do good and for justice is obeying God,
and when doing so, we could face unjust consequences for the sake of God, our Christian
duty (Compare Luke 21:12-19).
Thank
you for reading today. I continue to pray
for America, our administration and for those who cheer on the sidelines for
the actions and behaviors I have witnessed.
“Forgive them, for they know not what they do.”
